The stars sparkle in Paris for the holiday season
Shop windows and streets are decked out in splendour, creating a unique setting for the capital's end-of-year celebrations. Take a stroll along the most beautiful avenue in the world - the Champs-Élysées - and enjoy magical illuminations and a traditional Christmas market. You’ll be able to find those last minute gifts amidst the rows of charmingly decorated little wooden chalets piled high with handicrafts, artisanal foodstuffs and more. The outdoor ice rink set up on the Champs Elysées is also a great place to have fun, and you can continue to enjoy a glide on the ice after Christmas, right up until January 8th.
Other places in the festive City of Light will dazzle you, such as the Faubourg Saint-Honore, the Place Vendome or Les Halles. Follow the sparkling lights that lead you to the department store windows. Here you can discover enchanted worlds where Santa and his elves vie for your attention with polar bears and exquisite snow-covered landscapes. The displays offered by Printemps, Bon Marché and Galeries Lafayette will give you a warm glow of anticipation and, if you want more, just step inside. At the Galeries Lafayette you will discover a giant Christmas tree located beneath the store’s beautiful dome. Created with white paper, boundless imagination and exquisite attention to detail, it will transport you to the North Pole and its vast snowy spaces.
During your walks, you’ll have ample opportunity to visit Christmas markets - La Défense, Notre-Dame, Gare de l'Est... - and discover the gourmet specialties and crafts of the various regions of France. Savour a subtly spicy hot wine or taste a traditional pretzel to immerse yourself even more in the Christmas mood.
A feast at the end of the year
And while you’re in Paris you cannot miss the opportunity to enjoy a sumptuous dinner. The city’s great chefs have created divine dishes in honour of Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Your meal can be accompanied by breathtaking views of the capital’s most beautiful monuments when you dine in the famous restaurant of the Eiffel Tower (58 Tour Eiffel) or on a boat on the Seine. Other wonderful restaurants invite you to delight in the creations of starred chefs, including Alain Ducasse at the Shang Palace Le Meurice and Thierry Marx at Sur Mesure. Then, to finish the year in style, why not go to a cabaret? The Lido, the Paradis Latin or the Moulin Rouge each offer an original evening’s entertainment bursting with music, dance and spectacle.
The big-name pastry chefs of Paris have also got into the Christmas spirit by making fabulous seasonal treats. Check out the macarons offered by Pierre Hermé on the Rue Bonaparte, just a stone's throw from the hotel; or the exquisitely decorated chocolate Yule logs of Sébastien Gaudard. Meanwhile, top chocolatier Pierre Marcolini offers a Christmas treasure chest in the form of irresistible chocolate creations that you can put together in a box personalised as you wish; a loving gift or a great little treat for yourself!
The team of the Hotel d'Angleterre wishes you a wonderful holiday season and hopes to see you soon!
